Excessive Noise Due To New Traffic System
Reported via mobile in the Highways Obstructions category by Jonathan Miles at 05:43, Sunday 1 February 2026
Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8811134.
Car horn noise became excessive in recent weeks; day and through night. Always been lively here. Now a new problem. Frustrated drivers blocked from turning left to Graham Road. Front car doesn't see green light (bad angle?) or waits to go straight (lane?).

I think both the poor visibility of the "left turn" light and the left lane being mixed use contribute to the noise from driver frustration. Noise happens both inside and outside the restricted times for going straight to Mare Street/Amhurst Road instead of left to Graham Road.
If the council made what's now become the bus lane (right) also able to support cars going straight, I think it'd help a lot. Make it no longer bus only but also bring the restricted time signs earlier so drivers can choose the correct lane early and not obstruct buses during the busy hours.
If the council somehow made the green "turn left" traffic light more visible it'd also help. Lower down. Or repeated further away.

Hello, Thank you for your email regarding Mare Street. On Thursday 22 January the temporary signals at Mare Street junction with Graham Road were removed and replaced with permanent signals - not only has this improved the efficiency of the junction it has also been accompanied with directional signage.
In addition to the above we have also installed a number of “new road layout and signals” signs around the area to inform drivers of the new changes, typically this takes a couple of weeks for drivers to get used to the new changes and the problems you have listed below should ease.
We are still continuing to monitor the area and if additional signage is required then we will look to accommodate this.
Kind regards,
