Confusing signage at and lack of compliance with parallel crossing
Reported via desktop in the Non-Parking related road markings category anonymously at 14:56, Monday 5 January 2026
Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8629792.
Small signs on bollards on each side of the cycling section tell cyclists 'Wait here', even though cyclists have priority. Motor vehicles frequently fail to stop when cyclists are crossing and there appears to be no enforcement of cyclist priority.

Dear resident,
Thank you for contacting Hackney Council and for bringing this matter to our attention.
Hackney Council remains committed to improving the street environment through significant investment in traffic management, including enhancements to street lighting, roads, and footways. These measures continue to provide substantial benefits for both residents and visitors.
Regarding the placement of the ‘wait here’ signs on the bollards near the crossing, please be aware that cyclists have priority over motorists at a parallel crossing when they are waiting to cross or have moved onto the crossing. The sign placement is specifically intended to ensure that cyclists have a clear and unobstructed line of sight before they initiate their crossing maneuver. This measure guarantees good visibility and promotes safety for all road users approaching the junction.
As additional measures, we will refresh the road marking at the parallel crossing to improve visibility and ensure clear delineation for both drivers and cyclists.
I hope you find this helpful.
