Dangerous junction on Belsham Street. A fatality will happen

Reported via mobile anonymously at 17:50, Monday 27 October 2025

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8345042.

This junction is extremely dangerous for cyclists. It has become a rat run for cars. Everyday are near misses as cars are going too fast as well as unable to see around the corner on Chatham Place. A compulsory stop sine should be installed.

Updates

  • Dear resident,

Thank you for your email and for bringing this to our attention.

Hackney Council is dedicated to enhancing the street environment across the borough. The Mayor has invested significantly in traffic management improvements, which has led to substantial upgrades in our street lighting, roads, and footways. These efforts continue to benefit both residents and visitors. As part of this commitment, we are constantly looking for ways to improve road safety, and we appreciate your feedback on this important issue.

To address the concern raised regarding cyclist safety at the junction of Chatham Place and Belsham Street, we will be implementing two additional measures. In particular, we will be adding cycle symbols markings at the junction and installing a "Cycle route ahead" sign on Belsham Street. This is intended to improve awareness for motorists and pedestrians regarding the presence of cyclists using Chatham Place, thereby enhancing safety for all road users.

I hope you find this information helpful.
