Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8154198.
Drivers do not stop at the zebra crossing on Morning Path or at the junction from Belsham Street onto Chatham Place, making it a very dangerous area for cyclists. More stop and alert signs are needed to improve safety.

Dear resident
Thank you for your email regarding dangerous crossing at Chatham Place and Morning Lane junction.
Hackney Council has an ongoing commitment to improve the street environment of the borough and the Mayor has invested significant sums in making traffic management improvements across Hackney. This has led to major improvements in the condition of our street lighting, roads, and footways, and these, and other measures, continue to provide substantial improvements for the benefit of residents and visitors alike. As part of this commitment, we are continually seeking ways to improve road safety across the borough.
It is the Council’s view that the majority of motorists respect Hackney’s 20mph limits, but where there are continuing problems with speeding, the council and police will look at what further enforcement is needed. I must stress that the vast majority of motorists are law-abiding people and that, as with many other road traffic offences, it is the actions of an inconsiderate few that cause offence (and possibly harm) to other road users.
In terms of budget availability, the Council receives a significant number of requests from residents and businesses for various highway changes and traffic management, and these must be considered alongside a wide range of potential projects. Schemes and works that fulfil the Council's strategic transport objectives, stakeholder aspirations and statutory requirements are prioritised accordingly when determining the most justifiable use of the limited funding available to the Council each year. All funding for the current financial year is already allocated towards existing, committed schemes and projects.
However, in light of your concern, the Council will try to secure funding in the coming financial year. If successful, we will look to improve this crossing for the safety of all road users.
I hope that this is helpful to you.
