Cars speeding in the evening

Reported via desktop anonymously at 17:10, Wed 3 September 2025

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8114929.

On several occasions, cars are speeding in the stretch of Church street in front of the park, especially in the evenings. Sometimes they leave very small space for cyclist and it feels very dangerous. Can something be done?

Updates

  • Dear resident

Thank you for contacting Hackney Council regarding cars speeding in the stretch of Church Street in front of the park.

There are currently speed-reducing measures in place in the form of parking and speed tables. While engineering measures can influence motorist behavior, controlling individual motorists solely through engineering methods remains a challenge, as these measures are not always sufficient to deter deliberate speeding. The Council believes that most motorists adhere to Hackney's 20mph limits. We want to emphasize that the vast majority of motorists are law-abiding, and it is the actions of a few inconsiderate individuals that lead to offenses and potential harm to other road users.

Speed enforcement falls under the remit of the Metropolitan Police.and residents are encouraged to report speeding concerns directly via the following link: https://www.met.police.uk/ advice/ advice-and-information/ rs/ road-safety/ driving-offences/
