Cyclists getting hit by cars

Reported via desktop anonymously at 18:42, Mon 28 July 2025

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7945460.

Goldsmiths row is a very busy cycle highway. I live on the corner of Kay street and Goldsmiths Row. I have just witnessed the 3rd cyclist get hit by a car in the last 4 months. Always turning from Kay st to Goldsmiths and not checking correctly

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

Many cyclists may have the expectation, with the closure of Goldsmith's Row to the west, that this is a situation that means they can take less care and pay less attention. This is clearly not the case and cyclists should ride more defensively, particularly when negotiating any junction.

The give way markings here are quite worn so the visual reminder may not be having the impact we would otherwise expect.

We will ask for the give way marking to be renewed so they can be clearly. Once this work is carried out we will monitor the junction to see if any further measures may be necessary.

    State changed to: Closed
