Dangerous cycle lane zebra crossing

Reported via mobile in the Non-Parking related road markings category anonymously at 08:54, Wed 4 June 2025

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7659516.

Zebra crossing across the cycle lane is dangerous for pedestrians. Lots of cyclists, especially on electric bikes, do not stop at the zebra crossing and as a pedestrian it is difficult to properly be aware of cyclists due to lack of visibility.

Updates

  • Thank you very much for raising the problem faced by pedestrians when crossing the road at the Queensbridge Road / Dunloe Street shared zebra crossing.

I can confirm that there are no visibility issues for pedestrians at that junction however pedal cycles at speed are becoming an issue that needs to be regulated even at national level. We will look at installing ‘considerate cycling’ signs to encourage cyclists to reduce speed along the whole route and as they approach the crossing. Apart from that there is no existing legislation that we can use to regulate cycle speeds at the moment.

I hope this email has helped you with your enquiry and if you need further information regarding this location please do not hesitate to contact me at: streetscene.enquiries@hackney.gov.uk
