Primary school kids lost the crossing lights when the next door construction finished. Now we have no safe place for young children to cross the road.

Dear Piyanuch C,
Thank you for raising your concerns about road safety following the removal of the temporary crossing point near the school entrance. We take these matters extremely seriously, and the safety of children, pedestrians, and all road users remains our top priority.
The temporary pedestrian crossing was installed to facilitate safe access during the construction works for the new development at Worship Square. Now that these works have concluded, the crossing has been removed as planned. However, we fully acknowledge the risks highlighted in your correspondence, particularly with the return of two-way traffic and the lack of safeguarding measures around the school.
We agree that this location warrants further safety interventions. As part of the public realm improvements tied to the Worship Square development, a new permanent crossing point is planned to be installed approximately 40m east of the school entrance. This will be funded through developer contributions and delivered following a public consultation later this year. We are committed to ensuring this crossing is designed to meet the needs of pedestrians, including children and families.
In parallel, we are exploring additional measures such as a potential School Street scheme to prioritize pedestrian safety and reduce traffic risks during drop-off and pick-up times. While this would require careful planning and engagement with local businesses, we believe it could complement the new crossing and enhance safety in the area.
We understand the urgency of this matter and share your frustration that solutions cannot be delivered overnight. However, thorough planning, public consultation, and stakeholder collaboration are vital to achieving safe, sustainable outcomes. Rest assured, we will continue to monitor the area closely and work proactively to address risks.
