Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6995960.
The traffic has increased over the past last two years and now it seems like every day there is a traffic jam. This is a residential area. Cars race through also at 40 mph at night and buses also breathe speed limit.

Thank you for contacting Hackney Council regarding the traffic on Lauriston Road.
We agree with you that traffic levels on Lauriston Road are high as a result we are keeping this road under review. A traffic study we commissioned in July 2024 showed that Lauriston Road at the point north of the junction with Penhurst Street carries an average of 8,474 vehicles per day which is considered high for a road of this nature.
The most recent LTNs have focussed on areas with the greater population densities, social distancing (in the COVID pandemic) and air quality challenges. Some were introduced due to proximity to the South of the borough and the traffic changes planned for the City of London, and a more general need to develop a contiguous network of neighbourhoods without too many gaps. The current phase being developed continues the implementation of LTNs, prioritising schemes that were part of the original Emergency Transport Plan and have the highest need based on the original criteria for planning LTNs. Lauriston Road was not at the time part of the Emergency Transport Plan.
We are aware of the high traffic volumes on Lauriston Road, its residential character and the role it currently has of providing a vehicle route between two A roads (Well Street and Victoria Park Road). We are currently building the Hackney Transport Strategy 2025-25 which will set out a vision for Hackney including its main roads and LTN programme and your request for an LTN will be taken into account as part of this.
I hope that you find this helpful.
