Drivers ignore pedestrian crossing

Reported via mobile in the Highways Obstructions category anonymously at 22:17, Monday 21 October 2024

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6643079.

Drivers repeatedly drive over the zebra crossing with zero regard to pedestrians. Either not stopping, or queuing in traffic blocking the crossing for both pedestrians and cyclists. Signage isn't clear, raised area isn't raised enough to slow traffic down.

  • Thank you for your report regarding the parallel crossing on Crossway.

There are regulations governing the height that the council can use for vertical deflections. This is currently set to the highest level they can be. Also, as this is a bus route we are, again, limited by the gradient we can use for the ramps as there is a balance to be struck between the effectiveness of the flat top table (hump) in slowing down traffic and bus passenger comfort.

Whilst there are some moving restrictions the council can enforce, the blocking of pedestrian crossings due to stationary traffic is, unfortunately, not one of them. If this is a persistent occurrence, I would suggest in the first instance you report the matter to the police.
