Speed table too high/creating vibrations

Reported via desktop in the Highways Obstructions category anonymously at 17:44, Tue 15 October 2024

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6619057.

Prior patching ofexit point to reduce vibrations eastbound traffic cause hasn’t addressed problems of significant vibration when heavy vehicles exit. TFL also confirmed the speed table exit is too high, so request survey of table design/effectiveness.

  • Hello, I would like an update to this please. Speeding of heavy vehicles, particularly through quiet periods and at night continues to create very significant vibrations and damage. This is not the first time I have reported the issue, and remedial action (re maintainence) has not solved the issue of poorly designed and ineffective speed management through the intersection.

  • Thank you for your report. We are carrying-out our own investigations to determine exactly what is happening and what the cause could be before we can consider any remedial action.

If there are defects that need to be addressed we will take them up as part of our maintenance programme.

  • Hello can I get an update please. Vibrations are getting much worse again with each passing bus/truck exiting from the speed table to normal road.

  • Thank you for your comments. Our engineer has visited the site, and after an inspection has been carried through, the layout of the table is correct and up to the standards. We passed it on to another team to investigate the vibrations.

  • Thank you. Is it possible to get a copy of the report emailed. I’d like to also understand the reviewed effectiveness of it - because vibrations are mostly caused by trucks and buses who are unaffected red by the speed table design and thus creates high speed impacts exiting. This is particularly true for those exiting in an east direction

  • Thank you for your follow-up. We understand your concerns about heavy vehicles speeding at night, causing vibrations and damage.

We are currently reviewing the speed table at this junction and assessing the situation to identify potential resolutions. While previous maintenance addressed surface issues, it is important to understand the underlying problem of ineffective speed management.

We aim to complete this review early in the new year and will update you with our findings and any proposed actions. Thank you for your patience as we work towards a resolution.

  • Hello can I get an update please. I’d also like a copy of the report from the engineer originally. Sadly vibrations continue all day and night. With the worst being at night - particularly concerning eastbound direction. Heavy vehicles are unaffected/do not slow down over the table thus they exit at higher speeds causing vibrations upon impact. The speed table is causing more harm than good to surrounding buildings.

    Thank you in advance

  • Hello, can I get an update please. I can say that any longer/heavy vehicles ANY time of day are exiting the table eastbound at a sped and angle that means each vehicle is slamming onto the road in front of our flats with force. This is causing significant damage to my flat. New cracks have appeared. Your attention to this asap would be appreciated, otherwise I need to start raising with our local member and higher in council.
