Some road works have been done at the junction of Sandingram road

Reported via desktop in the Non-Parking related road markings category anonymously at 16:19, Thursday 10 October 2024

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6576541.

The issue is the new road markings prevent you from turning right at Birkbeck Mews and Birkbeck Road you are also not allowed to turn right at Kingsland High Street so in order to go on to Sandringham Road one has to go on Kingsland High .

Updates

  • Thank you for your report regarding the new traffic restrictions at the Sandringham Road/A10 junction.

The scheme which you have referenced in your report, forms part of a cycle route called C23. C23 starts from the Crossway/Boleyn Road junction and extends through the borough to Lea Bridge Road.

The scheme at Sandringham Road will provide a new toucan crossing for both cyclists and pedestrians to safely navigate across the A10. The scheme also makes the western section of Sandringham Road one way, with a contraflow cycle lane, and includes a banned right turn. There is also,, as you mentioned in your email, compulsory left turns at both Birkbeck Mews and Birkbeck Road.

The restrictions at this junction are designed to ensure Sandringham Road does not suffer from through traffic and reduce the overall level of motorised traffic to ensure the C23 cycle route is as safe as possible for cyclists.

We fully appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience for some drivers and with it being a new scheme, may need some time to bed in. However, the overall positive impact of the scheme is seen as supporting the council stated objectives of shifting towards more sustainable forms of transport, reduce car dominance and tackling both poor air quality and accidents in the borough.
