Dreadful road surface

More cyclists are using Kingsland Green due to the Kingsbury Rd Cycleway 1 closure, and the carriageway surface here is awful. It's very bumpy from historical repairs and dangerous. Can it please be resurfaced. Thanks.

Many thanks for your report regarding the condition of the carriageway in Kingsland Green.
We are currently in the process of carrying out our annual Highways Planned Maintenance Programme of Works for 2023/24. The process of producing this works programme involves inspecting and prioritising all the carriageways and footways that have been identified as requiring attention by an independent condition survey, the carriageways and footways that our Highway Inspectors consider to be in a poor condition and those carriageways and footways where we have received complaints from our residents and Councillors.
Once the pavement has been rated in terms of condition, other factors will be considered such as the number of people using it; close proximity to schools etc; other works being completed (either by Thames Water, BT, gas, electricity etc. or our own traffic management or road safety teams) and a final prioritised programme will be produced. The financial cost of each scheme is then estimated. The overall budget allocation for each year then determines when the works will be completed. Footways and carriageways are inspected on a periodic basis between three and four times a year. As a result of these inspections, localised repairs are implemented where a defect exceeds the Council's intervention levels and is considered to be a potential hazard to pedestrians or vehicle users.
My engineers have recently visited the site to assess the condition and concur with your comments that the carriageway is in poor condition, particularly at the junction with Boleyn Road.
However, there are many carriageways in Hackney that will be in a poor condition and put forward for a potential carriageway resurfacing scheme when coming to formulate our next annual Highways Planned Maintenance Programme in 2024/25.
Notwithstanding this, we will keep the carriageway in Kingsland Green on our wishlist file and will continue to assess it within our annual condition survey, with the view to potentially resurfacing it within future financial years. I am sorry that I cannot be more helpful with regard to this matter at this time.
In the interim period, our Highways Inspectors will continue to make the area safe and repair any defects that reach our intervention levels.
