Abandoned vehicle -No MOT since 2017 & SORN’ed

Hello - The car in the photos has been here for several months.

It is in a cul de sac (dead end) outside 2 blocks at the end of Gunstor Road & parked on double yellow lines, and is outside the underground car parking/garage areas, and it is close to the two blocks.

It has a flat rear offside tyre. The owners have put a Disabled Parking ticket/notice in the windscreen presumably to avoid any parking tickets as it’s parked on double yellow lines.

A check online at the Gov.uk site shows it’s not got an MOT, (since 2017), and it is SORN’ed so in theory should be off road. It’s on the Highway.

  • I reported this in FEB this year, the car still is in situ. I've checked DVLA again, and the car is NOT MOT'd, so is NOT INSURED or taxed. It is parked on a public highway, double yellow lines and has a disabled badge in the front windscreen with a 'time of arrival' badge beside it. The owner just keeps changing that daily. He lives nearby. However the car is uninsured and I don't think a disabled badge over-rides the LEGAL NECESSITY for a car to be MOT'd and insured, and taxed, to sit on a public road. This car clearly falls far short of this legal requirement and nobody has done anything about it since FEB and before. It's not the first time it's been reported to LB Hackney, I will also report it to the Police if necessary too.

But I will be contacting Cllrs Fajana-Thomas and Smyth about the lack of action, as I believe the car should be removed and long ago too.

Can I have an update please?

  • The vehicle has been inspected by members of the team and after reviewing all the evidence, they reached the conclusion that it does not meet the criteria for being classified as an abandoned vehicle and removing it. This report has been closed and passed on to the enforcement team.
