Park is full of rubbish

Reported via iOS in the Maintenance / Repairs Issue category by Ismail Buyukakan at 20:05, Sat 8 August 2020

Sent to Hackney Council less than a minute later

I was in Daubeney fields today to meet friends, old people. Lots of children playing at the play ground but the amount of unpicked rubbish all around the place was overwhelming as it also is a real public hazard to children and adults. Please assure that the park is often cleaned and kept clean. Rubbish bins are required.

  • Thank you for your recent email regarding rubbish in Daubeney fields.

We are experiencing incredibly high use of all of our parks at the moment. This is due to a combination of factors, including the hot weather, people’s desire to exercise during lockdown, and the number of other amenities and leisure facilities that remain restricted. This has meant that volumes of litter are incredibly high across all 58 of our parks, but our staff have worked tirelessly to litter pick and empty bins across all sites in quite challenging conditions.

Although the large amounts of litter are unsightly, we are managing to clear our parks relatively quickly the next day. Our Enforcement Officers regularly patrol our parks, and will issue fines if they see users leaving litter.

As well as the normal bins in the park we have also installed a number of large Euro bins to hopefully manage this volume. I will ensure the site is checked today as well as throughout the week
